Clarifying my goals as a landowner

What kind of woodland owner am I?

Woodland owners can clarify their motivations for owning land by comparing themselves with others. Four broad types of woodland owners have been identified by the Sustaining Family Forests Initiative, a collaboration of government agencies, landowner groups, businesses, and universities. They are described below. SFFI developed these types by analyzing national survey data. The categories hold true for every region of the country, although the percentages vary. In Maine, the two largest categories are “Woodland Retreat” landowners and “Working the Land” landowners. For more information, visit the Tools for Engaging Landowners Effectively (TELE) web site.
